State Treasurer Candidate Combines Office Opening with Holiday Giving Program

Democratic candidate for Illinois State Treasurer Robin Kelly, will host a special holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at her new campaign headquarters, 156 Towncenter Dr. in Matteson. Community members will have an opportunity to meet Kelly, as well as be part of the Friends of Robin Kelly holiday food giving program.

“I look forward to meeting with friends and community members on Saturday. It'll be nice to celebrate our campaign office opening with holiday-giving,” said Kelly, who has worked through the years to make food more accessible to families in need.

Just recently, while serving in her current position as chief of staff for the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office, Kelly helped pave the way for the Fresh Food Fund, a $10 million initiative that increases supermarket development in underserved areas. She also supported food initiatives while serving in the Illinois General Assembly and as director of community relations for the Village of Matteson. “While the holidays help us bring food to families in need, I’m just as committed to helping our families have healthy meals year-round,” she added.

A resident of Matteson, Kelly has served as the Treasurer’s Office chief of staff, since 2007. She also served as an Illinois State Representative from 2003 to 2007 and Director of Community Affairs for the Village of Matteson for 13 years. Kelly has a BA and MA from Bradley University, and earned her Ph.D. in political science from Northern Illinois University.

“Through my years as a public servant, the people of Illinois have always been my first priority,” said Kelly. “And that’s not just talk, my record speaks for itself,” said Kelly.

Individuals interested in contributing to the Friends of Robin Kelly food-giving program at the Open House should bring canned goods and non-perishable items. Donations will go to a local food pantry.
