Statement from Robin Kelly for Treasurer Campaign Manager Kay Page regarding Dan Rutherford’s false attacks:
In every year of the Giannoulias administration the State Treasurer's office has opened a new local satellite office to bring the services of the State Treasurer's office to citizens and communities throughout the state. In EVERY instance, these offices were opened rent free by partnering with local communities and finding vacant space. The Treasurer's office employees that were already serving these regions of the state now have a local office to work out of greatly reducing the travel expenses they previously incurred. In total these satellite offices have so far saved the state $30,000, all while being rent-free. Yet today Dan Rutherford has made it clear to the people of Mt. Vernon, Effingham, Rockford, Riverdale, Collinsville and the Quad Cities that he would rather run a less efficient office, increase the cost of running the State Treasurer's office, and force these residents to drive to Chicago or Springfield to get services from the Treasurer's office.
Why are the taxpayers in these areas less important and less deserving of the financial services the State Treasurer offers? You'll have to ask Dan Rutherford. If Dan Rutherford's plan is to make state services more expensive and less available he should stay in the General Assembly where for the past 18 years he has helped elevate these practices to an art form. In the last four years Robin Kelly and Alexi Giannoulias have proven that they can do more with less. As Illinois has faced financial straits, the Treasurer's Office voluntarily cut staff by 17 percent and saved $30,000 by opening satellite offices in neglected areas of the state with existing employees and rent-free offices.
Just as voters saw through Rutherford’s negative campaign against Secretary of State Jesse White in 2006, which won him a meager 33 percent of the vote, the people of Illinois will do the same this November and elect Robin Kelly Illinois Treasurer. While Robin has focused her campaign on creating jobs, Rutherford is trying unsuccessfully to deflect attention from his record as a typical career politician who has taken money from special interests and voted their way to hurt working families. Rutherford has voted against increasing the minimum wage four times while accepting pay increases that have nearly doubled his salary (from $45,000 to $86,000) as a part-time legislator.
The record is strong and the contrast is clear, come November voters can elect Robin Kelly who has a proven track record of doing more with less, or they can vote for Dan Rutherford who today pledged to do even less, while costing taxpayers more.
