Robin expects her staff to find new and better ways to serve Illinois residents, whether that’s finding more efficient ways to return their lost cash, implementing life-changing programs in underserved communities or encouraging environmental conservation.
• Implement Cash Dash Direct Mail Program
When residents lose track of bank accounts, insurance policies or other assets, they are turned over to the State Treasurer’s Office for safekeeping and distribution. Hard-working Illinois residents deserve to be reunited with lost money that they rightfully own. My administration has returned more lost cash and assets, known as “unclaimed property,” to Illinois residents and businesses in three years than in the first 19 years of the Cash Dash program. As Treasurer, I intend to expand our pilot Cash Dash direct mail program to save state dollars and return even more money to Illinois residents. With the direct mail program, residents receive claim forms directly through the mail at verified addresses. Since the program’s inception, more than $5.6 million has been returned to roughly 5,000 Illinois residents, saving the state more $23,000 in publication costs.
