Robin is a Financial Watchdog

To protect the state's resources for future generations, Robin would safely and smartly invest Illinois' tax dollars and run a streamlined office that constantly strives to do more for taxpayers with fewer dollars.

• Promote Office Consolidation:
Illinois taxpayers cannot afford duplicative services and wasteful spending. I will work with the newly elected Comptroller to conduct a feasibility study on consolidating the Comptroller and Treasurer’s offices. In this time of economic crisis and budget deficits, leaders must pursue every avenue to save money without affecting taxpayer services or compromising the safety of the state’s investment portfolio. Merging the state’s money managers into one office would mean our investors know what money is coming in and when it needs to go back out. This knowledge allows the investors to replace overnight investments with longer-term, higher yield investments.

• Give Preference to Illinois Financial Institutions and Businesses:
To help keep our local economies strong, the Treasurer’s Office should give preference to Illinois financial institutions and businesses when it comes to awarding contracts. I will find ways to break large and bundled contracts into smaller contracts to give Illinois community banks, minority-owned banks and union banks and firms an opportunity to compete for contracts that have only been handled by big Wall Street firms. Also, any bank that wants to do business with the office must sign a Community Reinvestment Act pledge.
