Community Reinvestment

One year ago, the Treasurer's Office took action to ensure that Illinois banks reinvest in our communities.

Together with the not-for-profit Monroe Foundation, we created a three-point community reinvestment pledge that requires all banks that receive or renew state deposits to provide:

Taming the Wild West

When it comes to debt settlement companies, it is the Wild West out there. The industry operates unchecked, misleading vulnerable consumers and profitting from their financial troubles.

Fortunately for Illinois residents, those days of "anything goes" are numbered.

The Illinois State Treasurer's Office worked with Attorney General Lisa Madigan to craft the the Illinois Debt Settlement Consumer Protection Bill, which regulates debt settlement companies for the first time. For more information please see the attached fact sheet.

Last week, Robin’s opponent tried to peddle misinformation about a Treasurer’s Office program that is saving taxpayer dollars and putting more money back into the pockets of Illinois residents.

Rutherford of Pontiac attempted to score political points by opting out of the Treasurer’s Office direct mail program, which has helped return $5.8 million in lost cash and assets to more than 5,000 Illinois residents the past two years – while saving the state $25,000.
